Welcome to the Fruita Fat Tire Festival/18 hrs of Fruita site!
The EDGE of SEVENTEEN... 17 years ago the fledgling idea of a "Fruita Fat Tire Festival" was being discussed as a way to show off the new trails we were building here in Fruita CO. Over the Edge was just opened in April of 1995 and the question was; "how are we gonna let people know about the awesome MTB movement arising here in Fruita". Answer? we threw a party; April 26th to be exact; it was the birth of the Fruita Fat Tire and the announcement of a new MTB destination.
Once again on April 26-29 we are throwing a party; maybe better than ever, come play in Fruita for the seventeenth annual Fruita Fat Tire Fest.
It's been a fantastic run; I think we are lucky that we get all sorts of feedback and we listen. Always making little adjustments to keep it fresh and exciting. Here's what we are doing new this year. Four Live Music Shows; from 3-8pm ish Friday and Saturday we will have live music on stage at the civic center with New Belgium Beer freely flowing under the warm springtime sunshine. (notice the weather wishes here). We also have finally changed the CLUNKER CRIT; it is morphed into a New Belgium style scavenger hunt around town with all the silly, zanny, goofy, fun bikes and costumes as always. But I felt like I was getting boring and I hate to be boring; so thanks to COPMOBA and Giselle; we rolled the dice, got some input from New Belgium folks and made a new event that should be fun for all (I sure hope) and stop me from making up the same old nonsense in the streets of Fruita. Other than that; same ole awesome stuff; EXPO, Demo's, Live tunes, New Belgium Beer and more new trails than I EVER thought we would have in the Grand Valley. Come ride with us!
Why the "edge of 17"? Well I have been really into Fleetwood Mac and since the start of this whole Fruita MTB thing is really rooted in the little bike shop: Over the Edge Sports; it seemed fitting. Do you realize that Fleetwood Mac Fleetwood Mac was their 10th album? An old band, got back together, somebody invited their girlfriend to join up (Stevie nicks) and made one "last" album; it launched a musical legend. IN 1994 I was headed to Moab to work at Poison Spider; on a whim, we opened OTE Fruita and... well you know the rest. Thanks for being a part of Fruita's MTB Legend. Register as a VIP if your going to be here Thursday night; that party is gonna be off the hook! (VIP REG - or reg at the door)... I really hope you come join the fun. Hope for warm and keep it near the EDGE!
